Sub-Groups

The WPC includes a number of sub-groups that are established to cover specific topics of interest to criticality. The sub-groups produce reports, position papers and WPC Good Practice Guides, along with developing standards in the case of the ISO Sub-Group, for use by criticality practitioners and wider industry. WPC and sub-group produced documents can be viewed here.

The WPC responds to the challenges of the wider industry and field of criticality safety and may create new sub-groups to address these challenges.

Participation in sub-groups is not restricted to WPC members, if you’d like to participate in any of the following groups then please contact the WPC.

The maintenance of a domestic criticality safety capability is essential for the UK nuclear industry. There is a risk of loss of criticality experience over the coming years which reflects the age profile of criticality safety practitioners and the wider nuclear industry.

Domestic criticality skills must be maintained to manage the UK’s nuclear liabilities and any criticality risk throughout nuclear facilities and operations. If the anticipated growth in the UK nuclear industry materialises, this will compound the need for criticality skills across the UK. With this in mind the Professional Development Sub-Group is interested in:

  • Recruitment and retention of criticality assessors
  • Criticality assessor development and training
  • Knowledge management and sharing between organisations

The WPC has compiled a number of useful resources, see Criticality Resources, for early-career and experienced criticality assessors to facilitate Continued Professional Development (CPD).
